HOW TO CLEAN YOUR NEW PIERCING
For the first 6 weeks after your piercing, we Recommend following the cleaning routine as instructed by your piercing professional.
Please avoid touching the pierced area other than to clean during the healing period!
Remember: Always wash hands before handling your new piercing.
FOR CLEANING TONGUE & OTHER ORAL PIERCINGS:
- Rinse with an oral anti-septic (such as Listerine, Biotine or product with similar) for 30 seconds after eating, smoking, or drinking anything other than water. To avoid over drying of the mouth, some can be diluted the rinse with water. Please call for further instructions. (760) 721-9100
- Keep mouth clean by brushing teeth & flossing daily. We also recommend the use of a new toothbrush.
- Expect a lot of swelling and some drainage.
- To help alleviate swelling you can suck on crushed ice and/or use anti-inflammatory products (Motrin, Advil, and Ibuprofen).
- DO NOT PLAY WITH IT!
- You can rinse with warm salt water or suck on crushed ice.
- Be extremely careful not to bite on the jewelry, as this can cause serious tooth damage!
- Check jewelry daily for tightness.
- Once the swelling has gone down (1-2 weeks) we recommend returning for a proper fitting post as needed.
- KEEP YOUR MOUTH TO YOURSELF!

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR NEW PIERCING
Aftercare for your piercing is very important. It may take up to one(1) year to heal completely. We Recommend to clean the piercing twice(2) a day for a minimum of three months.
Remember: Always wash hands before handling your new piercing.
Step 1: SOAKING is the most important step.
- In the shower or clean bath.
- With a large glass of warm to hot water, add a pinch of salt per 8-ounces of water.
- With a warm wet wash cloth.
- Under running faucet.
Soak 2-5 minutes, or more if needed.
Step 2: WASHING
- Immediately following soaking, lather up your soap with a lot of water and thoroughly wash the piercing. Rinse pierced aread and jewelry completely and thouroughly.
Avoid soaps with perfume(s) or deodorant. Some recommended options:
- Gold Liquid Dial.
- Provon Anti-microbial.
- Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap.
STAY OUT/ Avoid of pools, hot tubs, oceans, lakes etc. for 2 weeks – to 3 months.
Do NOT Touch your new piercing unless you are cleaning it.
Do NOT let others rub against or touch your new piercing.
AVOID tight clothing that binds or irritates the piercing.
- For the first 3-6 months, follow the cleaning routine twice(2) daily.
- For the next 3-9 months, clean area once(1) daily.
- Check or tighten your jewelry every time that you clean your piercing. This is your responsibility and will help you prevent the loss of your jewelry.
Step 3: Optional use of Bactine, H2Ocean, Wound Wash, etc. or similar product. Remember, these are not meant to be a substitute for cleaning.
